Hugo Münsterberg (1863–1916)

German philosopher and psychologist. He was a pioneer in the use of the ideas of applied psychology in education, medicine and business. One of the founders of applied psychology, which he called psychotechnics, as well as the author of the first works on determining professional suitability. Hugo Münsterberg developed the basics of psychotechnics, studied the problems of enterprise management, professional selection, vocational guidance, industrial training, adaptation of technology to the mental capabilities of a person and other factors of increasing the productivity of workers and the income of entrepreneurs. He was also engaged in forensic psychology and witness testimony, clinical psychology, psychology of education and art evaluation. He developed methods and strategies for the study of labor processes. In 1892, together with W. James, he organized the first laboratory of applied psychology in the United States.
