Irwin David Yalom (born 1931)

American psychiatrist and psychotherapist. Irvin Yalom is a representative of existential psychology, one of the branches of modern humanistic psychology. Yalom believed, first of all, that a new psychotherapy should be invented for each patient, because everyone has a unique story. The basis of this “new” therapy is therapy built on the interpersonal relationship “here and now” between the patient and the psychotherapist, on their mutual revelations. Yalom is also the author of several textbooks and numerous works of fiction on the professional activities of psychotherapists and the history of psychotherapy.
