Jerome Bruner (1915–2016)
American psychologist and educator, the greatest specialist in the study of cognitive processes. 1) He was engaged in the problems of the psychology of perception and thinking. He founded the psychological direction “New Look”, the main task of which was to develop an ecological approach to cognition, taking into account the motivational and emotional sphere and the value system of the cognitive subject.
2) In his concept of the development of knowledge, he synthesized the views of L. S. Vygotsky and J. Piaget. As stages in the development of knowledge, he proposed to consider three systems of representing the world: through practical action, through an image, and through a sign.
3) He emphasized the role of culture in the development of cognition, studied various forms of transmitting cultural experience.
4) He repeatedly addressed the problems of educational psychology, became one of the key figures in the reform of education in Great Britain and the United States.
