Karl Leonhard (1904–1988)

An outstanding German psychiatrist, neurologist and psychologist, known as the author of the concept of “accentuated personality” and one of the first typologies of personality. He developed a systematic classification of accentuated character traits, which describes extreme variants of the norm manifested in personality traits and behavior. His monograph “Accentuated Personalities” consists of two parts: one is devoted to psychological and clinical analysis, the second illustrates the types of accentuations on the examples of heroes of world literature. Leonhard had a significant influence on the development of psychiatry and personality psychology.
