Lacan, Jacques (1901–1981)

French psychoanalyst, philosopher, psychiatrist. One of the most famous psychoanalysts of the 20th century. He developed his own version of psychoanalysis by combining the ideas of S. Freud with structural linguistics. On the basis of the general philosophy of Freudianism, Lacan tried to substantiate the possibility of treating and diagnosing mental illnesses through speech. In his research, Jacques Lacan sought to turn psychoanalysis into a strict social and humanitarian science based on linguistic and logical-mathematical concepts. Lacan considered the “imaginary” – “symbolic” – “real” scheme to be the basis for his teaching, which in some respects corresponds to Freud’s triad “I” – “Super-Ego” – “It”.
Direction of psychology: psychodynamic / psychoanalytical.
