Maslow, Abraham (1908–1970)
American psychologist, founder of humanistic psychology. He is best known for his pyramid – the hierarchy of human needs. Maslow’s theory states that the highest needs (for self-actualization) can be satisfied only after the basic needs (physiological needs, the need for security) are satisfied. Maslow shifted the focus of psychology from pathology to the study of a healthy and creative personality.
