From a neuropsychological point of view, attention on the road is associated with the integration of the frontal lobe (executive functions), the parietal lobe (spatial perception) and the reticular formation of the brainstem (alertness and maintenance of attention). Any disruption in these neural structures or their functions is directly reflected in situational awareness, increasing the likelihood of accidents.
