Planned Behavior Theory

One of the most widely used psychological models to explain voluntary behavior. It assumes that a person’s behavior is determined by intention, which, in turn, depends on three main components:
1) Attitude – a positive or negative personal assessment of behavior (for example, “Speeding makes me feel safe”).
2) Social norms are the influence of the expectations of significant others (family, friends, community) that support or reject behavior.
3) Perceived behavior control – the degree to which a person believes that they can successfully perform a behavior even when faced with difficulties (e.g., “I can follow the speed limit even on highways”).
