Pre-trip planning in traffic
Enhanced cognitive-psychological function of the driver, allowing him to prepare for all aspects of the trip before starting to move. This includes choosing the optimal route, taking into account the length of the road, traffic density and alternatives; estimating the time of arrival; identification of stops or refueling points; and taking into account environmental conditions such as weather, lighting, and road conditions. It also includes an assessment of the overall safety of the road and potential hazards. Within the framework of behavioral traffic psychology, pre-planning is considered a key component of defensive driving, as it enhances spatio-temporal attention, preventive risk assessment, and monitoring of driver behavior during the trip. It also reflects the driver’s high level of awareness of the road situation and social responsibility towards himself and other road users. The assumption is also associated with reduced stress and emotionality while driving, improved decision-making in emergency situations and an increased ability to adapt to changing road conditions, which contributes to a reduction in the number of accidents and a significant increase in individual and collective safety.
