Psychological Mechanisms in the Theory of Risky Behavior
important psychological aspects of the concept:
1) Subjective perception of risk. Each driver has his or her own unique “perception threshold” that determines the level of risk that is acceptable to them.
2) Behavioral compensation. When a driver feels that the environment has become safer, they subconsciously adjust their behavior towards greater risk in order to maintain a level of difficulty that they perceive as normal.
3) Self-regulation of risk. Includes a balance between the pursuit of efficiency, speed and convenience on the one hand, and the avoidance of extreme risk on the other.
4) Personal and social factors. The desire for thrills, social pressures and cultural characteristics of driving affect the level of risk.
