Systematic desensitization
one of the first methods of behavioral psychotherapy by Joseph Wolpe, based on a systematic gradual decrease in a person’s sensitivity to objects, events or people that cause anxiety and phobias. The basic principle of the method is that the antagonistic reaction to fear, which can be formed during the action of stimuli that cause fear, gradually suppresses its reactions. The method of systematic desensitization is ranked among the most frequently used methods of behavioral psychotherapy.
