The relationship between the characteristics of the nervous system and the behavior of the driver on the road

Characteristics of the nervous system affect the behavior of the driver on the road through the processes of perception, attention, reaction and emotions These connections are manifested in different aspects: in the assessment of the road situation, in the distribution of attention, in the speed and accuracy of reaction, as well as in the emotional characteristics of the driver:
1) Speed of reaction and decision-making. Drivers with a quick reaction are able to cope more effectively with emergencies – harsh braking or maneuvering to avoid a collision.
2) Effects of Nervous Agitation:
– Low nervous arousal. May lead to boredom, distraction, and decreased concentration, especially during long or routine trips.
– High nervous excitement. May increase anxiety or tension, impairing the ability to concentrate and make decisions, and may contribute to aggressive or reckless behavior.
3) The strength of the nervous system. People with a strong nervous system are able to drive for longer periods of time without a significant decrease in attention or performance, while a weak nervous system increases the likelihood of errors or accidents through exhaustion.
