The theory of “arousal-attention”
psychological theory, which is based on the assumption that the level of physiological and psychological arousal directly affects the volume of attention and the quality of task performance. Within the psychology of traffic, there is an inverted U-shaped relationship (according to the Yerkes-Dodson law), according to which:
1) Very low arousal leads to dulling of attention, absent-mindedness, poor concentration and a decrease in driver motivation.
2) Moderate excitement increases attention, reaction speed and accuracy of decision-making.
3) Excessive arousal leads to anxiety, tension or anger, which narrows the area of attention and increases impulsivity and the likelihood of making bad decisions.
