Witkin, Herbert (1916–1979)

American psychologist who specialized in the study of higher cognitive activity and educational psychology. He was a pioneer in the theory of cognitive styles, in particular, he explored the differences between field-dependent and field-independent styles of perception. Witkin has developed techniques such as the Gender and Frame test and the Hidden Figures test, which allow for the identification of individual differences in the way information is perceived and processed. His work has had a significant impact on educational methods, contributing to the development of adapted learning strategies based on students’ cognitive styles.
