Yuri Mikadze (born 1947)

A neuropsychologist who specializes in the study of children’s cognitive abilities, in particular the learning skills of school-age children. Mikadze is interested in the study of individual differences in mental activity and their impact on the assimilation of knowledge and learning skills, applying the theoretical foundations of neuropsychology in educational and pedagogical activities. Scientific works and contributions: Mikadze is the author of a number of outstanding studies that have had an impact on developmental neuropsychology, in particular:
1) “Learning abilities in differential neuropsychology” (1999–2000), devoted to the analysis of individual differences in learning abilities in children.
2) “Neuropsychology of Development and Learning Abilities” (1998), in which he explored the relationship between the development of higher neural functions and the ability to assimilate knowledge.
3) “Individual differences in the development of ten-year-old schoolchildren” (1997), which demonstrated the influence of age and neurodevelopment on academic performance and adaptation to learning. Mikadze also participated in an international comparative study of the application of Alexander Luria’s approach to the neuropsychological assessment and rehabilitation of children, thereby contributing to the generalization of Russian scientific experience and its adaptation to various international conditions. Yuri Vasilievich Mikadze is a pioneer in the field of integrating theoretical research with practical applications to improve learning and support children with individual differences in cognitive abilities.
